You can only do this with the paid version of Scrabble, for $9.99. For one, you cannot play against the computer to sharpen your skills. The game is fun, and looks great with support for Retina display, but it falters in a few areas. While you're playing with someone online – a friend or random opponent – you can text chat, too, if desired, complete with emoticons, autocorrect, spell check and more. Speaking of dictionaries, you can change between the official Tournament World List dictionary and others, like Merriam Webster (where proper nouns, like June, are accepted), and a French dictionary. Scrabble Free HD for iPad also includes features like Exchange (swap tiles for new ones, but it'll count as your turn), Teacher (see what your best word could've been after every turn) and Dictionary (check for words you're unsure of). When you're done, your opponent must make a word by adding letters to the board, like a crossword puzzle.
